GOING UP…ON A TUESDAY

Who would have thought today would have been jam packed out the wazoo (well September 15, 2015 to be exact)? This post is super late…don’t judge me. I was slightly anxious about jumping from work to show after show after show. Eek! But I conquered it like a champ (except my feet weren’t happy the following morning).

8am: Whyyyy do I have to be at work again? Oh right, I get paid by the hour AND I took a day off for my Fashion Week debut. Womp.

12pm: Is it time to go yet?

1pm: Packed up to head out of the office…so excited to see the three shows I rsvp’d for today; Harbison, Fashion Guerilla and Samantha Black! Also excited to get in a quick nap before sprucing up. Oh yea!

3:30pm: How is my Uber car here already? I’m NEVER at the door waiting. Have to transfer my feet from slipper to heel like an expert; rolled up white pants till my heels go on because…..white pants.

4pm: Figured out why I was nervous as we inched up to The Standard Highline for the Harbison SS16 show. On Sunday, I was surprisingly bombarded by photographers which I was NOT used to nor prepared for. It was surreal but also pretty cool that the cameras clicked a million times within a few seconds as I walked up to the Ground Zero show. Anyway…check mirror…shoulders upright…time to roll out this car!

4:15pm: With a breathtaking image of the ocean in the background, I squeezed through a wonderful crowd of fashionable men and women. In my 4 inch heels I was able to see the show over a sea of people, and the more people left, the more I was able to get even closer. Creative Director Charles Elliot Harbison took us on a lovely excursion of mixed prints, delicate frills, and bold color blocking. The divine jewelry, created by The PR Series, was simply awe-inspiring. Best show of the season…well, my season :)

4:30pm: Too early for the Fashion Guerilla show, but maybe walking over to the venue will kill half hour. It didn’t and it was hot as hell! Luckily, I was able to stand inside to enjoy the AC. Gorgeous girl with the most flawless skin stood in front of me…turns out she’s an awesome model, by the name of Philomena Kwao. I had to let her know she was incredibly beautiful!

5:15pm: Show started late but I got a good seat! Woot! Fashion Guerilla included different designers from Hong Kong, namely, Daydream Nation, Injury, Placed by Gideon and Methodology. All shows were incredible, mainly because of unconventional accessories…I adored it all. My favorite for the evening was Methodology, mainly because of the leather visors!!

6:30pm: Samantha Black’s show doesn’t start till 8pm so need to grab a drink and some food. I don’t know why I had bourbon…had to follow that up with Mac & Cheese because falling in 4 inch heels during fashion week is such a faux pas! Lol.

image

7:30pm: A super long wait in the line to Samantha Black…feet started crying…rather bawling. However, the wait was worth it once I saw a basketball star, whose name I won’t mention, sitting on the opposite side of the runway. Samantha’s collection of tailored sets, sweet dresses and jumpsuits, styled with sneakers and chunky necklaces was uber cool, fun and fresh! There’s a black dress that had my name on it!

Side note: I apologize…the only great picture I managed to get was of the venue (a beautiful church)…curses iPhone 5s camera!

WELCOME BACK TO THE 90S

It has been such a crazy week that I am late with the posts from my NYFW experiences. Guarantee this week you will get the full report.

Ground Zero’s Spring/Summer collection took us back to the era of the 90s in such an awesome way. We all have our ‘what were we thinking’ moments when looking back at pictures from that time period, but designers Eri and Philip Chu made sure we would never live in regret ever again and wishing we held onto the clothes we threw out. Their asian roots were very noticeable with breathtaking and intricate embroidery….definitely the highlight of the afternoon. Mix that with distressed denim, funky hardware and modern cuts, you got a winner!

ONLY WARMTH IN THE SPRING

Due to the flu, I sadly had to miss Rebecca Vallance’s Spring/Summer 2016 Presentation. Walking in the rain while sick the night before probably wasn’t a great idea…at all. Luckily, the lovely team over at Factory PR was kind enough to send the images of the collection…and can you say ‘in love’?

Inspired by ‘Hollywood’s iconic Film Noir and the pop culture of the 1970s’, Vallance captures these eras flawlessly with wonderfully tailored dresses, wide leg jumpsuits and palazzo pants. The mulberry toned leather features cool lacing details that everyone will want for Fall. Her collection is a delightful departure from the bright colors we usually see for spring/summer. She now has us anticipating the arrival of Spring more than ever.

GEOMETRIC GOODNESS

Charles Youssef captured simplicity and elegance in everything he created for his Spring Summer 2016 collection. His use of geometric shapes and patterns was pleasantly balanced, making his third collection both powerful and feminine. The beautifully embroidered silk organza pieces were so detailed and delicate, they took everyone’s breath away as the made their way around the room. He’s a designer to continue keeping our eyes on.

AND I’M BACK

It has been almost a year since I last did a blog post. Yikes! I have good reasons for this though. 2014 was a year of change for me, as I was testing waters and gearing up to leave my home in Jamaica to pursue oh so much. The journey hasn’t been easy (actually lead to a new tattoo and the works), but I’ve somehow managed to keep pushing. I’ve also had a superb group of people who have been there on those days when I’ve wanted to give up and roll out.

Anyway, the journey continues…and I hope you come along. I’ll still be posting all the things my heart smiles for, but gear up because some new exciting stuff is coming!

My word for the year is IGNITE….it’s time to light some fires this year, as the flame in my heart oozing creativity continues to burn pretty bright. Here we go….

I’m a sucker for great packaging and top that with an extreme obsession with Leica Cameras (it’s been on a my wishlist forever), it’s no wonder I’ve been staring at these images all morning. The X2 Edition Fedrigoni is to die for and who wouldn’t want a limited edition box like that!??! Only 25 will be sold…and unfortunately my birthday and Christmas are far away…so no insane requests can be made right now. LOL! Enjoy!
